Privacy Policy

Last updated September 28, 2026

Your trust matters to us. This policy explains what information DiasporaWorks collects when you use our website, how we use it, who we share it with and the choices you have.

1. Who we are

DiasporaWorks ("DiasporaWorks", "we", "us") runs www.diasporaworks.com, a job board and career news site for the African diaspora. We are based in the United States and serve job seekers and employers worldwide.

For any privacy question or request, email info@diasporaworks.com.

2. Information we collect

Information you give us

  • Account details: name, email address, password (stored only in encrypted, hashed form) and your account type (job seeker or employer).
  • Job seeker profile: phone number, photo, bio, skills, work experience, education, preferred locations, and the CV or résumé you upload.
  • Job applications: the job you applied for, your cover message and the CV you attached.
  • Employer details: company name, logo, contact details and the jobs you post.
  • Messages you send us through the contact form or by email.
  • Job alert preferences, such as the keywords and locations you want to hear about.

Information from sign-in providers

If you sign in with Google or Microsoft, we receive your name, email address and profile picture from that provider. We never see your Google or Microsoft password.

Information collected automatically

  • Technical data such as your IP address, browser type and device, and the pages you visit, which our servers record in logs for security and troubleshooting.
  • Sign-in session data, including the IP address and browser used for each session, so we can keep your account secure.
  • Clicks on partner job links, which we count so we can report on and improve the listings.

Payment information

Employer payments are processed by Stripe. Your card details go directly to Stripe and are never stored on our servers. We keep a record of your plan, payment amounts, dates and invoices.

3. How we use your information

  • To create and run your account and let you sign in.
  • To show jobs, let you apply, and send your application to the employer you applied to.
  • To let employers post jobs, review applicants and manage their subscription.
  • To send the emails you expect: account verification, password resets, application updates, receipts and any job alerts you set up.
  • To publish career news and improve the site, including which jobs and articles people find useful.
  • To prevent fraud, spam and misuse, and to keep the site secure.
  • To meet legal, tax and accounting obligations.

4. Who can see your information

Employers. When you apply for a job posted directly on DiasporaWorks, the employer receives your application, your profile and your CV. Registered employers can also search job seeker profiles; keep in mind that anything in your profile may be seen by them.

Partner job sites. Some jobs on DiasporaWorks come from partner job networks (such as Adzuna, Careerjet and WhatJobs). When you click "Apply on employer's site", you leave DiasporaWorks and that site's own privacy policy applies. When you use the partner job search, we send your search words, location, IP address and browser type to the partner so it can return relevant results and prevent fraud.

Service providers. We use trusted companies to run the site: Amazon Web Services (servers), Hostinger (website hosting and email), a cloud database provider, Cloudinary (image and file storage), Google Firebase (sign-in), Stripe (payments) and our email delivery provider. They process your information only to provide their service to us.

Legal reasons. We may share information if required by law, to protect the rights and safety of our users or others, or as part of a merger or sale of the business, in which case this policy continues to apply.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

5. Cookies and similar technologies

We use your browser's storage to keep you signed in and remember your settings. Our sign-in provider (Google Firebase) and payment provider (Stripe) set cookies needed for sign-in and secure payments. If you use the language menu, Google Translate sets a cookie to remember your language.

We do not use advertising cookies. You can clear or block cookies in your browser settings, but sign-in and payments may then stop working.

6. How long we keep it

We keep your account information while your account is open. You can remove your CV, photo and profile details from your account at any time. If you ask us to close your account (email info@diasporaworks.com), we delete or anonymize your personal information within 30 days, except where we must keep it longer, for example payment records for tax and accounting purposes. Server logs are kept for a short period, usually a few weeks. Employers who received your application may keep their own copy under their own policies.

7. Security

We use encrypted connections (HTTPS), store passwords only in hashed form and limit who can access personal information. No website can be perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password and tell us right away at info@diasporaworks.com if you think your account has been misused.

8. Your choices and rights

You can view and update most of your information in your account at any time. You can turn off job alerts in your account, or email us and we will stop any non-essential emails.

Depending on where you live, including in the European Union, the United Kingdom, California and several other US states and countries, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or receive a copy of your personal information, to object to or restrict certain uses, and to withdraw consent. To make a request, email info@diasporaworks.com from the address on your account. We will respond within the time the law requires and will not treat you differently for exercising your rights. You may also complain to your local data protection authority.

Where the law requires a legal basis for using your information, we rely on: performing our agreement with you (running your account and applications), our legitimate interests (keeping the site secure and improving it), your consent (for example, optional job alerts) and legal obligations (such as tax records).

9. International transfers

DiasporaWorks is based in the United States and our main servers are there. If you use the site from another country, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States and in other countries where our service providers operate. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.

10. Children

DiasporaWorks is for people aged 16 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 16. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will change the date at the top of this page and, for significant changes, let registered users know by email or a notice on the site.
