Terms and Conditions

Last updated September 28, 2026

Please read these terms carefully. They explain the rules for using DiasporaWorks as a job seeker, an employer or a reader of our career news.

1. Agreement to these terms

These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") are an agreement between you and DiasporaWorks ("DiasporaWorks", "we", "us"), based in the United States, for your use of www.diasporaworks.com and its services (the "Site"). By using the Site or creating an account, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.

You must be at least 16 years old to use the Site, and old enough to form a binding contract where you live.

2. What DiasporaWorks does

DiasporaWorks is a job board and career news site for the African diaspora. Employers post jobs, job seekers find and apply for them, and we publish career news and guides. We also show jobs from partner job networks; those are applied for on the partner's or employer's own website.

We are not an employer, recruiter or employment agency, and we are not a party to any hiring decision or job. We do not guarantee that any job seeker will get a job or that any employer will find a candidate.

3. Your account

  • Give accurate information and keep it up to date.
  • Keep your password safe. You are responsible for activity on your account.
  • One person or company per account. Do not create accounts for someone else without their permission.
  • Tell us at info@diasporaworks.com right away if you think your account has been used without permission.

4. For job seekers

Your profile, CV and applications must be truthful and must be your own. When you apply for a job posted on DiasporaWorks, you allow us to share your application, profile and CV with that employer. Registered employers may also view job seeker profiles.

Always research an employer before sharing sensitive information. Legitimate employers will never ask you to pay to apply, to pay for training or equipment up front, or to share bank details or ID documents before a formal offer. Report suspicious jobs to info@diasporaworks.com.

5. For employers

By posting a job you confirm that:

  • the job is real and currently open, and you are authorized to recruit for it;
  • the description, pay, location and requirements are accurate;
  • the job and your hiring process comply with applicable employment, anti-discrimination, immigration and data protection laws;
  • you will not charge candidates any fee, and you will not post pyramid schemes, commission-only offers presented as salaried jobs, or adult content;
  • you will use candidate information only to recruit for the job they applied to and will protect it as required by law.

We review job posts and may edit, reject or remove any post, or suspend an account, if we believe it breaks these Terms or could harm users.

6. Plans, payments and refunds

Some employer features require a paid plan. Prices and what each plan includes are shown before you pay. Payments are processed by Stripe, and by paying you also agree to Stripe's terms.

Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period until you cancel. You can cancel at any time; your plan stays active until the end of the period you have paid for. You can request a refund within 7 business days of a charge by emailing info@diasporaworks.com; approved refunds go back to the original payment method. After 7 business days, fees are non-refundable except where required by law.

We may change our prices. Changes apply from your next billing period, and we will tell you before they take effect. Prices do not include taxes unless stated.

7. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • post false, misleading, discriminatory, hateful, harassing or illegal content;
  • impersonate anyone or misrepresent your connection with a company;
  • collect other users' information, or scrape, copy or resell job listings or profiles, without our written permission;
  • send spam or unsolicited offers to other users;
  • upload viruses or try to break, overload or gain unauthorized access to the Site;
  • use the Site for any scam, fraud or unlawful purpose.

8. Your content and ours

You keep ownership of the content you submit, such as your CV, profile or job posts. You give DiasporaWorks a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, display and share that content as needed to run the Site, for example to show your job post or send your application to an employer. The license ends when you remove the content, except for copies already shared with employers or kept in backups for a limited time.

The Site's design, logo, articles and other content belong to DiasporaWorks or its licensors. You may share links to our articles, but please do not copy them in full without permission.

9. Partner jobs and other websites

Jobs from partner networks and links to other websites are provided for your convenience. We do not control those sites, their job listings or how they handle your information, and we are not responsible for them. Their own terms and privacy policies apply. We may earn a fee when you click partner job links.

10. Career news is not professional advice

Our articles, including those about visas, immigration and employment rules, are general information and may become out of date. They are not legal, immigration, tax or financial advice. Check official sources or speak to a qualified professional before acting.

11. Disclaimers

The Site is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent allowed by law, we make no warranties of any kind, including that the Site will always be available or error-free, or that job listings, employers or candidates are accurate, genuine or suitable. You are responsible for your own decisions about jobs, candidates and employers.

12. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent allowed by law, DiasporaWorks will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for lost profits, earnings, data or opportunities, arising from your use of the Site, any job, any employer or candidate, or any third-party site. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Site is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim or US$100.

Some places do not allow these limits, so some of them may not apply to you.

13. Indemnity

You agree to defend and compensate DiasporaWorks for claims, losses and costs (including reasonable legal fees) arising from content you post, your hiring or job-seeking activity, or your breach of these Terms or the law.

14. Ending your use

You can stop using the Site at any time and ask us to close your account by emailing info@diasporaworks.com. We may suspend or close accounts, or remove content, that break these Terms or put other users at risk. Sections that by their nature should continue (such as content licenses already used, disclaimers and limits of liability) survive after your account ends.

15. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and applicable United States federal law, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute that is not resolved informally will be heard in the state or federal courts located in Pennsylvania. Before bringing any claim, please contact us at info@diasporaworks.com so we can try to resolve it informally. Nothing in these Terms takes away rights you have under the consumer laws of the country where you live.

16. Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will change the date at the top of this page and, for significant changes, let registered users know by email or a notice on the site. Continuing to use the Site after changes take effect means you accept the new Terms.
